Setting up Camp

Angel Island

We got the sweetest tent site this camping trip to Caspar Beach!  It was across a little bridge, right next to the creek.  When we arrived, it was dark (we'll plan that better next time.)  Poor Brian got up an introduction up close and personal with the stinging nettle as he was setting up their tent.

The next day the kids spent most of their time trying to damn up the creek.  Jake thought the site was pretty cool, too.  Here I zoomed in across the creek from where the cars were parked.

One of the reasons we love Caspar Beach so much is because it is a protected cove literally across the street that the kids can swim in without worry.  Jamee and I sat on the beach and combed the sand for sea glass and anemone spines while the kids splashed and bobbed.

Of course, it wouldn't be camping without roasting....something!  We tried hot dogs, marshmallows and starburst: mmmmmm......
Check out the dirt on Gehrig's happy face.  We lost track of how many days he went without showering because, he'd just take a dip in the ocean, another perk of camping by the beach.

Jake gave it a thumbs up.

We also love the fully stocked little shack at the camp entrance.  They have everything you could need and want from ice cream to sweatshirts, from lantern mantles to old fashioned candy sticks.  Natalee designed a cool treasure hunt for the kids all over camp that ended up at the store.  You can even rent kayaks and surf boards.
Yes, Gehrig is in his pajamas.  That's how we roll at camp.

Here are the girls (Nat and Kate) in the back garden of my favorite boutique in Fort Bragg,
The Posh Pauper.  But more on the shopping later...

Belle loves camping as much as we do.
She was only scared by the killer racoons a little bit (wink).  But, she showed them who was boss after a little nighttime gallivant in which she sniffed and bayed the entire perimeter of camp and then squirreled away in the foot of our sleeping bag.
