Corning, revisited

Last weekend, we helped Aunt Lynn move into her childhood home in Corning. She's retiring! While we were there, we took the opportunity to show the kids some spots of family interest.

The First Christian Church of Corning

I have fond memories of Easter Sundays spent here, with it's beautiful stained glass windows, the elderly man that played the organ (even the carillon bells in the tower), Grama singing in the choir and Grampa ushering us all in; the creaky, well-worn wooden floors and pews. We always got there early so Grama could arrange enormous bouquets of flowers Grandpa grew in their garden.

These are also some of my favorites. Natalee took this picture - I think it's neat that she found beauty in the same thing I did as a kid. These are the naked ladies that grow under Grama's clothesline in the side of the house. Clean, line dried laundry always makes me think of Grama Faye. We had some good talks, her hanging wet laundry and me sitting on the upturned metal ash- bucket.
